Tena Koutou Katoa

Congratulations to Ella who received the "WOW" award last week for looking after our newest students and Beau this week for working hard in all areas including maths and kite making.
It has been a very busy last couple of weeks with lots happening at school - See below. It's hard to beleive we are nearly at the end of the term and half way through the year.
We hope you have something special planned for the holidays and hope you enjoy a break from those school lunches!

Matariki Breakfast

Here are two snippets from some of the children.
Matariki Breakfast
The Matariki Breakfast was amazing. It was tasty, delicious, funny, tiring, warm, cold, very cool, good, amazing and I liked it. It was the best Matariki breakfast in the world.

My Matariki Breakfast
When I came to school I was the 3rd there. There was a campfire, food and hot chocolate with marshmallows. The food was yummy although I didn't eat all the different things. But all in all it was amazing.

Classroom Sharing - Kanuka Class

Making butter As part of our topic on early settlers, last week Kanuka class tried and successfully made butter! We learned about milking cows and the “dairy” and the process of butter churning . As we didn’t have a churn, we improvised and used jars and our own shaking muscles. After adding cream and a pinch of salt, in groups we took turns shaking . We were able to observe the changes and fairly quickly produce butter. We poured off the leftover buttermilk and spread our butter on bread to try. We were very impressed with the taste and results and most of us came back for seconds or thirds!
Transforming waste into kites
This term Kanuka class has been working with Serina Linton, the Waste Minimisation Educator from Hurunui District Council. We have learned about where our waste goes and have been focussing on reusing waste to make kites. We are not yet finished but thought we would share some insight photos into the process.

A beautiful story to the left from Stevie, one of our Year 1 students. A great illustration.

A Story from Benson Year 2
As I kicked the kick ball ball I suddenly noticed it coming for my leg. It crashed and I fell over. I lay down and Arlo came to check on me.
Arlo said "Benson, Benson"and I said "Arlo" I got up and I said "Arlo do you want to play with me?"
