On the last day of Term One, in conjunction with our learning about the America's Cup. Waipara School journeyed to the Lake Roto Kohatu Reserve in Harewood and learnt the art of sailing on Lake Rua , working under the guidance of KORE Sailing. After practising guiding the yacht around the course, the wind unfortunately came up and the children were unable to sail singlehandedly around the lake. However, we left the sails on the shore and ventured out onto the lake, with the tiller providing the movement across the water. Working with a buddy, the children had heaps of fun before being allowed to jump off the pontoon, just out from the shoreline. This provided as much enjoyment as the messing about in boats did!!!! A wonderful day out in the sun and a great way to spend the last day of the term.
